The Little Gold Grammar Book (Modification, Rule 26)

Rule 26: 때때로 수식어나 수식구가 실수로 두 개의 단어나 구를 수식하는 위치에 놓일수 있습니다.
어느 것을 수식하게 되는 지 이 애매한 수식어의 문제를 해결하는 방법은 문장을 고쳐 써야 합니다.

Incorrect: She said in her office she had a copy of the map.
그녀는 사무실에 한장의 지도 사본이 있다고 했습니다.
Q44: She said she had __________ lying in her office.
A44: She said she had a copy of the map lying in her office.
(She is presently not in her office but the map is.)
그녀는 사무실에 없고 지도는 사무실에 있는 경우입니다.
Also: While we were sitting in her office, she told me she had a copy of the map.
(She is in her office with or without the map.)
고쳐쓴 문장의 경우는 그녀와 지도 둘다 사무실에 있는 경우입니다.
